The United States of America has killed Iran’s top general and the orchestrater of Tehran’s proxy wars in the Middle East.
He was hit by an airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport on Friday. His vehicle was struck by an armed American drone on an access road near the Baghdad airport.
The killing of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, could draw forceful Iranian retaliation against American interests in the region.
The death of the General can could cause chaos and extend larger conflict between the U.S. and Iran, endangering U.S. troops in Iraq, Syria and beyond.
According to the U.S Defence Department, Soleimani “was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region,”
He is also accused of being the brain behind the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad earlier this week.
Iran has already warned the U.S. of possible retaliation.
Hessameddin Ashena, the adviser to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, said,“Trump through his gamble has dragged the U.S. into the most dangerous situation in the region.”
“Whoever put his foot beyond the red line should be ready to face its consequences,” Ashena said.
Iraqi officials say the airstrike killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was deputy commander of Iran-backed militias in Iraq, PMF’s airport protocol officer and five others.
President Donald Trump after the airstrike posted this on his twitter handle:
Here is what some angry citizens had to say:
