Rafael Mensah, JpgRafael Mensah says winning a world title once again is paramount on his mind

Rafael Abrompah Mensah says he is planning to take on the best in his division in a bid to get a shot at the world title once again almost a year after being battered by Alberto Machado.

The 26-year-old lightweight pugilist (31-1-0) tasted his first defeat in his only world title challenge at the hands of Puerto Rico’s Alberto Machado in a World Boxing Association super featherweight bout staged in the US in July last year.

Mensah, a Bukom-based southpaw who has relocated to the USA lost via a 12-round unanimous decision to the 28-year-old Puerto Rican and has not stepped in the ring since.

But in an interview with the Daily Graphic recently in Accra, Mensah, who is currently in the country on holidays, hopes to return to the United States to finalise talks with his promoter,Don King Promotions, about his upcoming fight.

“I am enjoying my time now in Ghana. I will be going back to America soon. I have been training here and will be fighting in September this year”, he told the Daily Graphic.

The boxer maintained that although he had not gotten over the loss to Machado, the need to fight for a world title once again is paramount on his mind.

“You know the Machado defeat was hard and painful, but I have learnt a lot from it and I would take such lessons in good faith and move on. I am bent on winning a world title,” he assured.

Rafael is counting on the prayers and support of Ghanaians to achieve his long held dream of winning a world title in the super featherweight or lightweight division.
