Dormaa-Ahenkro
(B/A), Dec. 04, GNA – With two days to commence, all is set for the celebration
of the Kwafie festival of the chiefs and
people of Dormaa Traditional Area at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central
Municipality of Bono Region.
What makes the
festival a unique occasion this year is that its coincides with the
commemoration of the joint 20th anniversary of Osagyefo Oseadeeyo
Agyemang Badu II and Odeneho Akosua Fima Dwabeng as the Paramount Chief and
Queen respectively of the traditional area.
The Planning
Committee and of residents, particularly at Dormaa-Ahenkro, have therefore been
making feverish preparation towards the occasion.
In view of that, a
number of landlords, landladies and families have repainted their houses,
whilst huge billboards depicting the portraits of Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II and
Odeneho Dwabeng have been erected at entry points to the Dormaa Central
Municipality.
The Dormaa Central
Municipal Assembly has also facilitated in giving Dormaa-Ahenkro a facelift and
have upgraded some principal streets in the municipality.
Speaking to the
Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, some landlords who have renovated their houses
located within the central business district of Dormaa-Ahenkro said “it is
necessary to create a positive image about the town because of a large number
of visitors who are highly expected to attend the two historic events”.
Business men and women
have taken advantage of the occasion and are engaging in brisk businesses by
producing and selling cloths and t-shirts bearing the portrait of Osagyefo
Agyemang Badu II.
The programme of
activities include a beauty contest dubbed ‘Miss Kwafie 2019’, performing of
some customary rites and a football match competition.
The two-week event,
anticipated to attract natives of Dormaa from far and near, officially starts
on Friday, December 6 to be climaxed with a grand durbar on Saturday,
December 21st.
