Effutu Assembly engages citizenry on the state of the municipality

Winneba (C/R) Sept. 24, GNA – The Effutu
Municipal Assembly has invested over 794,114.04 Ghana Cedis into projects to
promote education to end Open Defecation and also improve on the living
standard of the people in the municipality.

The project included two 10-Seater
Bio-digester Toilet at Pokorekyir, two-unit classroom block with rest rooms,
kitchen and other ancillary facilities at Effutu Ateitu, and 3 unit classroom
block at UNIPRA South, with the Assembly Common and the District development
funds.

Mr. John B. Ninson, Effutu Municipal Chief
Executive (MCE) said this at a town hall meeting the Assembly held at Winneba
to give accounts of the one and half year of their stewardship to the
citizenry.

According to MCE the major sources of funds of
the assembly had been the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the Internally
Generated Fund (IGF), Urban Development Fund (UDF), and District Development
Found (DDF).

He said the Assembly was fully committed to
the utilization of such funds in the execution of their core duties creditably
and efficiently to improve the lots of the citizenry.

 In a
presentation on the achievement and the way forward, indicated that the
assembly also utilized some of its IGF to ensure that, the Kojo Beedu and south
East Zonal Councils were operational and also have a building at Penkye a
community in Winneba to CHIPS compound, rehabilitated.

The Assembly also used part of their Urban
Development Grant to dredge, and open up stagnant water along the by–pass into
the Ntakofam stream, extended electricity, water, provided 4 number fire
extinguishers, and procurement of one big sized deep freezer for the municipal
Abattoir among others. 

During the year under review, they also
provided a 10-seater passenger shed, graded and open up a 3.9 km Cape
Coast-Winneba by-pass linked roads, constructed culverts to cover  the drains, constructed 3-story building
self-contained apartments, excavated, distilled and re-alignment of a 1.5km
Zongo stream channel to join stream bodies in Winneba.

Under the Urban Management, they opened up
un-engineered roads, had routine maintenance of access roads, maintenance of
waste dump site, extended water to newly developed communities and maintained
the street lights.

On Agriculture (Planting for Food and Jobs),
the Effutu Municipality registered 312 farmers made up of 209 males and 103
females from 13 communities to work on 303 acres of land of coconut and 48
acres on the cashew plantations whilst the assembly gave approved seedlings to
the farmers free of charge.

The health facilities in the municipality
recorded 105 deaths for under 5 mortality in 2017 and 78 in 2016, while 4,578
people that tested for HIV, 108 testing positive in 2017 alone.

On Education, it was revealed that the
municipality recorded 100 percent in the 2016 Basic Education Certificate
Examination (BECE).

A total of 659 persons were enumerated to
enjoy the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) out of which 581 were
enrolled made up of 501 female and 80 male.

Neenyi Ghartey VII Effutu Oma Odefe who
chaired the forum, commended the assembly for their commitment and dedication
to work at creating enabling environment for people to live in, saying, there
were more room for improvement towards the total growth of the area.
