The Zongo Community is on its way to being less impoverished with clean-up exercise that seeks to eradicate poverty.

The Ministry Of Inner City and Zongo Development is set to embark on a clean-up exercise within Zongo communities in the Greater Accra Region on April 28 this year which he believes would reduce poverty.

According to the sector minister, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, the move forms part of measures to achieve President Akuffo Addo’s goal of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

“You will reduce poverty when you enhance sanitation, because at the end of the day, disease like malaria will be reduced and we will have fresh air to breath, so it is important we keep our environment clean, and this is also to support the Presidents vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa,” he said.

The sector minister, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, said the cleanup exercise would begin from Nima.

The ministry also believes the exercise will instil discipline in people who stay in the Zongo communities.

The Minister for Inner Cities & Zongo Development, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, last month said his ministry would concentrate on four thematic areas that seek to improve the livelihoods of Zongo dwellers massively.

The areas his outfit will look on developing includes infrastructure, sanitation, economy and security.

“We are charged to get ourselves engaged in four thematic areas of infrastructure, sanitation, economy and social development. We are talking about security and crime control, and then we are talking of cultural promotion,” he said.

50 million dollars has been allocated to the ministry to achieve the vision.

Fund, many have questioned its impact on earmarked communities so far.
