Akufo Addo AssesmentMarket women say President Akufo-Addo should tone down on his English

Market women in Accra have urged President Nana Akufo-Addo, to tone down on his English oratorical skills.

The women told Adom FM, although they voted for the President, they find it hard to hear him when he rattles in English.

While the President has had occasions to receive praise for his oratory, some market women remain unimpressed.

The women did nasal sounds to mimic what they found to be the president’s style.

“…the last time I saw him on TV, I had to be extra attentive to hear the word ‘police’,” a trader said.

“We don’t understand his American English. Nana Addo’s English is too much. We should speak ‘Form 4 English like the man is going’, she complained.

The women said the president simply does not open his mouth enough to speak and found his speech to be more of radio signals.

Another woman said she often feels embarrassed to have to ask people to explain the president’s comments because it may expose her own English language deficiency.

Meanwhile, Professor Nana Essilfie Kondua of African University College of Communications agreed with the traders, saying that it is time government officials spoke more local languages or used interpreters when they speak with the public.
