The Kintampo Municipal Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region has presented working tools to 155 Persons With Disability (PWDs) to enable them to undertake businesses of their choice.

The items included freezers, industrial sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, farming inputs, such as spraying machines, machetes and weedicides; shoemakers’ kits and leather materials and hair drying devices.

Other items were Key Soap, sugar, cooking oil, tinned tomatoes and toilet rolls, among others, which were meant for those who chose to trade in those commodities.

Some of the PWDs who have gained admission to colleges of education received GH¢2,000 each to support their education, while other beneficiaries received GH¢500 as health support.

The items were presented according to the business plan or proposals presented by the beneficiaries to the assembly.

It was to support those who had acquired various skills and knowledge to produce made-in-Ghana products but lacked the tools and equipment to work, while those who also decided to go into petty trading were provided with the goods according to the proposals they presented to the assembly.

Decent jobs

Speaking at the presentation in Kintampo on Wednesday, the Kintampo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Michael Sarkodie Baffoe, said the presentation was to support PWDs to engage in decent jobs to stop them from begging on the street.

Mr Baffoe entreated them to work hard with the items to support the government in building a strong economy.

Not rejected

Mr Baffoe explained that the society had not rejected them since they were endowed with potential that could be harnessed by the society.

For her part, the Kintampo Municipal President of the Ghana Society of Physical Disabilities (GSPDs), Ms Abena Waasan, thanked the government and the assembly for the items.

On behalf of the members of the society, she promised that they would make good use of the items to improve their living standards.
