Ken Agyapong Vows Ppsle.pngMP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong

Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is pleading with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to reduce duties on imported products at the ports.

To him, the excessive duties and taxes are hindering operations of importers forcing them to halt imports.

“My only worry has to do the Port. They should reduce the tariffs and you will see how it will attract a lot of people to import. Now people are not importing because the premium is high. I have friends who always call to complain. It’s very pathetic” he said.

The outspoken MP was speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam”Tuesday.

The government has lately come under criticism from the importing community following the rise in import duties and levies at the ports.

But Ken Agyapong mentioned the introduction of the common external tariffs (CET) as one of the factors affecting their business operations.

He said business-related activities at the ports may come to a halt entirely if more practical methods are not applied in running the revenue collection system at the ports.
