The [email protected] Africa initiative was birthed in a bid to empower mothers across the continent, the initiative kick-started its incredible journey in Lagos State, Nigeria. On the 23rd and 24th of November,2018, we championed a new cause in the lives of every mother that was at the symposium we held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State. With impactful presentations from amiable guest speakers, to thought-provoking panel discussions and hands-on masterclasses, we gave mothers a new perspective to viewing their lives and bettering their lifestyles.
Our symposium which was graced by a plethora of guests tackled major issues affecting a large number of women in this 21st century. Presentations by renowned professionals like Toyin Saraki, Lilian Odim, Oremeyi Akah, Titilola Shogaolu, Gbonjubola Abiri, Victor Ohuruogu, Titilayo Medunoye, Temitope Hundeyin and Itoro Ugorji on topics such as “Maximizing the potential of a working mum”, “Career mums- the efficient organization’s perspective” and “Super mums- starting or growing your business” were made. A key note speech on “The responsibility of employers in providing an enabling environment for working mums” opened several eyes to the various means to ensure that the needs of working mums are integrated into companies’ policies. Our Day 2 keynote speaker Lynda Saint – Nwafor, was deliberate about using the keynote speech to inspire the women towards consolidating their career as working mums and also showing them practical ways to take full control of their careers and make the best of it. Hands on masterclasses on e-commerce, social media, health and money-making ventures made it to our programme as well.
With sponsorships from MTN Nigeria, Tecno Nigeria, Jumia Nigeria and NECA (Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association), our symposium offered so many special benefits to all those who attended. The presence of the on-site baby crèche by The Baby Lounge to cater for the children while the mothers paid apt attention to the symposium was one of the thoughtful highlights of our symposium. Added to this was the corporate profile picture session we organized for all the attendees to begin updating their profiles both online and offline with a professional image. The networking aspect was indeed another highlight as attendees networked over a buffet lunch and met with professionals from all fields of careers in Nigeria.
Thanks to our esteemed sponsors, participation in the [email protected] Symposium was free to the working mums, all they had to do was to register.
We have indeed championed this new cause in the lives of every mother and with our collaboration with NECA (Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association), it is evident that we are on the right path to bettering the lives of working and non-working mothers in Nigeria and Africa at large.
