The Registrar-General’s Department has clarified a publication in the Daily Graphic newspaper about the Tax Identification Number (TIN) not going to be a prerequisite for business registration any longer.

In a press statement on Thursday, November 29, the Department stated that TIN will from 2019 be automatically generated as part of the new business registration process.

It said the publication’s indication that the digital address will replace TIN is erroneous.

“We wish to state that Digital Address will be required as part of the business registration process in order to enable officers of the Metropolitan Assemblies locate where the business is to follow up and give business operating licenses.

“But it will NOT replace the TIN as indicated in the publication.”

The Department, however, confirmed that TIN will no longer be a prerequisite for business registration as it will be part of the process.

This is part of reforms being undertaken by the agency.

“The Department wishes to assure the business community that the reforms being carried out are aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business performance in Ghana,” the statement signed by Registrar-General Jemima Oware noted.
