Thirty-two CAF referees gear up for Ghana 2018

A total of 32 referees and assistant referees selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have converged in Cape Coast to undergo a preparatory course to fine-tune their readiness for the impending Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Ghana next month.

The five-day preparatory course for the referees which started today and expected to end on Sunday, October 21 is designed to put the referees and their assistants in good shape.

This is to ensure that they be on top of the biennial flagship women’s competition fixed for November 17 to December 1 2018.

Besides being the grounds to prepare the referees for the Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament, the course will also provide a platform to assess and evaluate the match officials, and select the best and well-conditioned ones for the 2018 tournament.

The Ghana 2018 tournament will also be used as the continental qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

According to CAF, the officials made up of 16 referees and 16 assistant referees from 25 Member Associations will go through medical screening, theoretical and physical drills in their quest to make the list for the final tournament.

Topics designed to be treated during the theoretical sessions include technical and tactical analysis of the game and reviewing of video clips of matches .

Also to be treated are special session on integrity and match manipulation.
