A former Minister of State at the presidency, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has said the promise by politicians to fight corruption will remain utopian if the political system remains the same.

According to him, the current system that encourages corruption and ties the hands of political leaders, making it difficult to prosecute those found culpable.

“Our hands are tied. People have given you T-shirts, money and all kinds of things and now you are dealing with them. It was almost unconscionable,” he stated.

Citing himself as an example, the former Sports Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration said he nearly lost his life when he decided to right some wrongs surrounding the GYEEDA deal.

“Some of us nearly lost our lives because of the pressures within and without” he stated at a public forum in Accra.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah indicated that majority of the culprits are party financiers of both ruling and opposition political parties so “they will come after you”.
