GNA – Police Superintendent Joseph Owusu, the Suhum Municipal Commander of the
Ghana Police Service, has said moral decline has resulted in the acts of
indiscipline in every sphere of the society.
“We live in an era
where moral values have broken down and crime is committed by young people,” he
said.
Supt. Owusu said this
in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the side-lines of the Silver
Jubilee Celebration of the Eastern Regional branch of the Ghana National
Tailors and Dressmakers Association at Suhum, with more than 1,600 members.
He pointed out that
robbery was on the increase, while prostitution, internet fraud, also known as
sakawa and occultism were all gaining grounds in the Suhum Community, and
called on parents to serve as role models and inculcate moral values in their
children.
He urged the public to
endeavour to report suspecting criminals within their community to the police
adding; “It is an offence to harbour a criminal.”
Supt. Owusu urged the youth
to be law-abiding and desist from causing mayhem in their communities to avoid
being branded as “agents of destruction.”
He advised the
tailoring apprentices to lead the campaign against indiscipline, so as to
restore sanity and dignity into their profession.
The Commander urged
parents and guardians to be good friends of their children and wards, by
assisting them in their quest for good education.
He entreated teachers
and parents to develop in the children the values of integrity, honesty,
respect and hard work, while advising children to be obedient and respectful to
their parents, guardians and all people they come into contact with.
