Goaso (B/A), Sept. 21, GNA – The residents of
Goaso and the entire Ahafo area of Brong-Ahafo Region have been advised to vote
emphatic yes in  their numbers to get the
required percentage  during the upcoming
referendum  to endorse the creation of
the Ahafo Region.

The result of the impending referendum slated
for December 27, 2018 would determine whether the proposed Ahafo Region would
become a reality or not.

This is because, constitutionally the proposed
region could only be created if 50 per cent of the total number of qualified
voters in the area turned up on the day of the referendum to vote and out of
that 50 per cent, 80 per cent must have voted yes.

Nana Baffour Akwasi Bosompra I, the Paramount
Chief (Omanhene) of Goaso Traditional Area gave the advice in a speech
delivered on his behalf at a public sensitisation forum at Goaso in the Asunafo
North Municipality.

The forum organised by MTN Ghana Limited, a
mobile telecommunication company was to showcase the number of socio-economic
development projects it had executed as part of its corporate social
responsibility programme for Ghanaians within the last three years.

It was also to update residents within the
Municipality about its operations and services and the operational strategies
devised to address peculiar challenges relating to its numerous services, as
well as the socio-economic achievements made to complement government’s efforts
to enhance the lives of Ghanaians.

The participants included; representatives
from the Goaso Traditional Council, the security services, Assembly Members,
civil servants and the general public.

Nana Bosompra said the day of the referendum
had offered them the opportunity to decide for themselves if they wanted rapid
and holistic development which could better be achieved through a separate
region or not.

“Now our socio-economic destiny, either we
want accelerated progress or not is in our own hands”, the Omanhene stressed.

Nana Bosompra lauded the government of
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the decision to create the additional
regions in the country, upon the expressed will and consent of the people.

He said it would bring about numerous
socio-economic benefits such as ensuring equitable distribution of national
resources, which could provide job avenues for the teeming unemployed youth to
be employed.

Concerning security pertaining to the MTN
mobile money services, District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Hornuvo,
the Goaso District Police Commander said the company though had structures to
protect customers from fraudsters but “all customers must also be diligent to
ensure secured environment when accessing mobile money services”.
