Church of Christ organizes blood donation and health screening

Tema, Aug 21, GNA – The Tema branch of the
Church of Christ has organized a free health screening exercise as part of its
50
th Anniversary Celebrations.

The exercise would help the Tema General
Hospital stock its blood bank for routine and emergency cases.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during
the exercise at the church premises, Community Six, Tema, Pastor Benard Asante
of the Church of Christ, observed that Christianity brought two types of lives:
“One is the spiritual aspect and one is the physical aspect, and when we talk
about the physical aspect, it’s the responsibility of every Christian to live a
healthy life and be strong.”

He informed that with strength, members could
help in the development of the church and the nation as a whole, adding that,
“When you have strength that is when you can follow the commandments of the
Lord, so our health is very important.”

He said Christians sometimes forgot about
themselves and took every incident as spiritual and therefore committed even
things they could do themselves into prayer.

He added that, “So we have to leave the
spiritual aspect to God and deal with the physical ourselves; the physical
aspect is when someone needs blood and we give him blood. So help a brother
with blood so he can live.”

The Principal Blood Donor Organizer at the TGH
Blood Bank, Mr. John Ahadjei, said donations by residents, educational
institutions, churches and other stakeholders had made blood shortage at the
facility a thing of the past.

He explained that if people voluntarily
donated blood once, their donor cards entitled them to receive up to two pints
of blood when they were in need of blood at the time of a medical crisis.

Mr. Charles Binney, General Manager of Plus
Lab and Diagnostics centre, sponsors of the occasion, told GNA that they
supported the programme as part of their responsibility to provide good health
care to Ghanaians, which to him, was a necessary requirement for development.

The year-long celebration of the bi-centenary
anniversary of the church, which was on the theme: “Acknowledging God’s
Faithfulness,” would include a Lecture, Clean Ghana Campaign, Gospel Walk,
Jubilee Church Establishment, Evangelism and a Mammoth Thanks-Giving-Service.
