U-20 Women’s World Cup: Poor preparation cost us- Yusif Basigi

Head Coach of the Black Princesses Yusif Basigi has blamed the lack of proper preparation ahead of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign in France as the reason for their opening day humiliation against the hosts.

The Princesses were beaten 4-1 in their opening Group A game, in a game which saw them trail by 3-0 at the half time break.

Yusif Basigi side’s scheduled tour of Spain before the tournament, which involved a friendly match with the Iberian nation’s u-20 side was cancelled, due to visa problems.

The development meant the Princesses played no international friendlies to prepare them ahead of the tournament, and this, Basigi believes was the cause of their defeat against France.

“We didn’t play any friendly international before coming so I knew we were going to face a little bit of difficulty, but not to this extent,” he said.

“It looks like we started very slowly and that didn’t help us at all.”

Ghana will take on the Netherlands on Wednesday in their next group game, looking for a win to boost their chances of making it out of the group stages of the tournament for the first time.
