I don’t oppose or support Mahaha’s return – Haruna Iddrisu

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has dispelled claims that seek to suggest that he is opposed to the return of former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the 2020 genera elections.

Reports are rife on social media that the NDC MP for Tamale South is not in support of the candidature of Mr. Mahama despite his avowed commitment to support the party to reclaim power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

But in a disclaimer note issued in Accra, Wednesday, the Minority Leader said he has neither authored a statement nor instructed anyone to issue a statement to oppose the candidature of Mr. Mahaha on his behalf.

The said claims which are allegedly attributed to him, he noted, are meant to create disaffection within the rank and file of the NDC.

He said his primary objective, as the Minority Leader, is to lead the Minority to support the leadership of the NDC in its efforts to mend their differences and unity the rank and file of the party following the 2016 election defeat and build a strong opposition to the MOP government.

“It will therefore be at odds with this objective to be openly opposed to or in support of one candidate or the other. As a leader of the Minority Caucus, I remain neutral in the process of electing a flag bearer for our great party and I pledge to respect the will of the delegates and to support whoever emerges as the eventual winner“, he noted.
