A CCTV camera exposed thief convicted

Aflao, July 18,GNA – A man, who was unaware he
was captured on a Closed Circuit Television Video (CCTV) camera installed in a
shop from which he  stole mobile phones
and cash at Abor, near Akatsi has been arrested.

This was after he went there again to steal 10
days later.    

Pascal Petersah, 25, a head Porter, has since
appeared before the Aflao Circuit Court and was sentenced to a GH¢3,600.00 fine
or go to prison for four years in default.

He pleaded guilty.

Mr. Michael Akemo, a Detective Police
Inspector told the court presided over by Mr. Ali Baba Abature that the
complainant is a businessman who owns a mobile phone shop at Abor whiles the
accused lived at Aflao.

He said at about 1034 hours on May 15, this
year, the accused and one other visited the complainant’s shop under the
pretence of purchasing a phone.

Mr. Akemo said under their modus operandi, the
other person engaged the complainant in discussions about a phone he would have
liked to buy, during which Petersah stole two Infinix and one nokia phone, all
worth GH¢2,000.00 plus GH¢400.00 cash in a phone pact at the blind side of the
complainant.

He said upon detecting the theft, the
complainant reported to police, and exactly 10 days later, unsuspecting, Petersah
returned to the shop apparently to steal again, unaware a CCTV installed there
had captured his first act.

Mr. Akemo said the accused admitted the act
and said he sold the phones in Lome, Togo, but denied operating with an
accomplice.
