A woman said that she was left with no choice but to shoot a man who tried to get away with her car while her children were inside.

Michelle Booker-Hicks of Texas stopped to buy gas at about 10:00 p.m. before parking close to the convenient store to pay for it.

She left her car running with her 2 and 4-year-old sons in the back seat.

Suddenly, Booker-Hicks saw a man, who was identified as 36-year-old Ricky Wright, jumping into her car and driving away.

The mother jumped into the car and warned the driver to get out.

When he refused, Booker-Hicks grabbed her gun from her glove compartment and shot the carjacker in the face. He was injured just below his right eye.

Wright lost control of the car and crashed into a fence. He then attempted to flee from the scene but he collapsed after crossing the road.

The suspect, who has a long criminal record, was taken to a hospital, where he is said to be in serious but stable condition.

Booker-Hicks said that she “should have emptied the whole clip, but she only fired once “as a warning shot.”

The mother and her two children were not hurt.

Booker-Hicks is not facing any charges for the shooting as Texas state law allows people to carry guns inside their vehicle without a license.
