A man was handed over to police for not having money to pay for a cab that brought him home from jail.

40-year-old Charles Folk hailed a cab after being released from the Brevard County Jail at about 1:00 a.m.

He asked the cab driver to take him to his home in Melbourne, police said.

After the 30-mile trip, Folk told the driver that he did not have the $70 to pay for the fare.

He called his sister for help, but the taxi driver would not accept a phone payment from Folk’s sister who was out of town at that time, according to a Melbourne police report.

Folk was arrested and taken back to Brevard County Jail, where he was charged with theft. He is being held on $2,000 bail.

Court records show that Folk had just been released from prison on a charge of criminal mischief for ransacking his home and destroying his roommate’s belongings.
