The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Authority, Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah has hinted of plans to demolish slums near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area following TV3’s exposé on a booming sex market.

The AMA boss also commended TV3 after receiving a copy of ‘The Street Sex Business’ investigative story.

The premiering of TV3’s investigative piece has received a number of reactions from several quarters including the Ministry of Railways Development.

On Friday December 29, 2017 a delegation from TV3 led by the head of news, Matilda Haynes presented a copy of the documentary to the mayor of Accra.

After receiving his copy, Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah said although the sex trade is prevalent within the enclave of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange for decades, it can no longer be entertained.

“This is not something that we should condone, it is something we must act on because the people in this country are not happy about it,” the Mayor said.

He insisted that the AMA will clear the newly developed slums along the rail lines after TV3’s investigative story.

He however revealed that officials of the Ghana Railways Company are behind the springing up of slums in the area.

Nii Adjei Sowah however commended TV3 for a good work done.

Slums around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange were demolished by the AMA after the June 3, 2015 fire and flood disaster but they have been reconstructed where the sex business is thriving.
