The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has detected a huge number of unauthorised General Counterfoil Receipts being used by some unscrupulous persons for collection of tax in the name of the Assembly.
The KMA, has therefore, reported the matter to the regional police command and has commenced investigations.
Kumasi Mayor Osei Assibey Antwi, who made this disclosure at the Assembly’s end of year meeting held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, said the unauthorised General Counterfoil Receipts were discovered after the Assembly’s revenue management team went out for a field work.
He said the team has furnished him with all the needed documents concerning the unauthorised receipts and detected that some of the receipts date back to 2011. He said some of the counterfoil receipts which were supposed to be used for Subin sub-metro were used for “maybe Manhyia, and Manhyia for another place”.
Mr Antwi said all the information on the unauthorised General Counterfoil Receipts has been given to the regional police command. He told the General Assembly that the outcome of the investigations will be communicated to them after completion.
