Days ago, a reputable Non Governmental Organization, Essential Relief International decided to hit Nsawam prison with the quest of bridging the gap between inmates and families outside their walls.
The charity event “Christmas Party with Inmates” was organised on Friday 22nd December 2017 as members of the NGO were joined by the ‘Word On The Street Ministry’ to storm the prison yard with lots of food and drinks to feed over four thousand (4000) Inmates.
With an atmosphere filled with love and care for these rejected inmates, the feast begun in a grand style, as senior inmates and officiating Prison Officers ushered inmates from about Six (6) various prison departments, to enjoy mouth-watering meals ranging from local to continental.
Music wasn’t left out, as the inmates band dazzled the gathering with some good gospel songs, songs that pierced the heart and left you thinking.
The passion, actions and speed with which the inmates pounced on the meals served would have one wondering how often this happened and for a day meant for joy and happiness tears couldn’t be eliminated.
The Chief Executive Officer of Essential Relief International, Alexander Nutakor said, “I’m very fulfilled to see these inmates smile, there’s Joy in my heart and now am even scared the food wouldn’t be sufficient looking at how, the plan of serving each and every inmate per plate as changed into two to three plates”.
“Far from what is being heard about these people, as Ghanaians, we can play integral roles in making life wealth living for them,” he concluded.
Inmates were treated to varieties of local dishes such as fufu with light soup, Banku with okro stew/ pepper , grilled tilapia , “konkonte” (face the wall) and many more, accompanied with assorted non-alcoholic beverages.
