Kumasi’s popular leisure facility, Rattray Park, is set to bounce back with thousands of visitors as city authorities find a way to restore the dancing fountain after months of break-down.

The park’s major attraction ceased working in July this year following the theft of a USB drive containing its operating software.

Manager of the facility then, Kwame Asamoah Mensah, and the man in charge of IT, Carlos Sakyi Ntow, were arrested and later released.

They have since been sacked and replaced with a new management.

Though the USB drive remains missing, new IT Manager, Simon Radd, says he has devised a way to operate the fountain manually.

Life returned to the main source of attraction for holidaymakers on Saturday, December 23, as the dancing fountain spat its first dance water moves after months of dormancy.

Public Relations Officer at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Godwin Okumah Nyame, told Luv News the park will return to its good days with improved visits throughout the yuletide, with the restoration of the fountain.

Rattray Park, inaugurated about two years ago, has raked in at least Gh¢2.5 million in revenue.

Patronage, however, dipped when life went out of the dancing fountain.

It was constructed by the KMA under then-Mayor, Kojo Bonsu, in a bid to restore Kumasi to the Garden City of West Africa status.

The facility was named after Captain Robert Sutherland Rattray, a Scottish Assistant Colonial Secretary in the Gold Coast and clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Accra in 1919.

The park’s facilities include an artificial lake, a golf cart, WiFi connection, children’s playground, a gym and a 6 square meter dancing fountain, the first of its kind in the country. Other components are restaurants and cafeterias.
