Krachi East: NPP’s Gyato (MP) wins case in election petition

The  lone seat for the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Volta region, Krachi East constituency which has been under litigation has finally been annexed by the NPP following the judgment of the Ho High Court, re-affirming Michael Gyato as MP.

The NDC candidate in the 2016 Krachi East parliamentary elections, Wisdom Gidisu, brought the matter before the High court asking the court to annul the parliamentary results of some six polling stations in the Constituency on grounds of over-voting.

But the High Court, presided over by Justice Eric Baah threw out the case on lack of merit.

The court held that the petitioner failed to establish a case for cancellation of the outcome of the polls.

According to the Court, there were no basis for the annulment of the entire constituency results as the said over-voting wouldn’t have affected the outcome of the election, as prescribed by the law.

Justice Baah awarded a cost of GHC25, 000.00 against the petitioner in damages.
