Former National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah says leadership at the “highest place” is to blame for Ghana’s underdeveloped status.
“We should have been long, long [developed], [and not be] behind Europe,” he registered his disappointment with the country’s slow pace of development.
Speaking at the African Business Centre for Developing Education (ABCDE) Awards ceremony held at the British Council Tuesday, he said the misfortunes of the past must not be repeated in the future.
“What we are lacking today is leadership at the highest place,” he said, calling for the mentoring of the youth to avoid repeating the mistakes made by their parents.
The ABCDE awards ceremony was held to recognize the contributions of some individuals and institutions towards youth education.
Mr Nunoo-Mensah said when Ghana attained its independence on March 6, 1957, Asian giant, Malaysia was nowhere near it, in terms of potentials and resources.
But 60 years down the lane “we are still languishing in the wilderness,” he said, adding the focus should be on the training of the youth to aim higher.
“I have so much experience that I have to share with the youth. We should all share our experience with these young children [because] they need guidance and they need to be motivated,” he said.
The ABCDE awards ceremony was held to recognize the contributions of some individuals and institutions towards youth education.
Chairman of ABCDE, Dr Ekwow-Spio Gabrah also implored corporate institutions to reach to the youth in the society.
