The Ministry of Energy has directed the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association to direct their worries regarding the cylinder recirculation module to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA)

The Association earlier this month threatened to withdraw its services across the country if the government fails to address their concerns. According to it, the Energy Ministry sidelined it in the implementation of the cylinder recirculation module as ordered by president Akufo-Addo.

It says several attempt by it to get the Energy Ministry to react to their concerns regarding the implementation of the module proved futile.

“We are also considering all constitutional and legal means available to us, as indigenous Ghanaian entrepreneurs, who have built the LPG Industry in Ghana with loans, overdraft and other facilities for the past 30 years to address our concerns,” Vice Chairman of the Association Gabriel Kumi told Starr News then.

But in a caveat at a crunch meeting Wednesday, December 20, 2017 to iron out the grievances of the Association, Deputy Energy Minister Mohammed Amin Adam charged it to forward their concerns to the NPA.

According to him, government through the NPA has instituted an implementation committee to address the Association’s concerns.

“We have considered that these demands they [LPG Marketers Association] are making are beyond us because government wants to implement this policy in a way that is satisfactory to all of us and  to particularly the Ghanaian people who are the consumers of the product,” he said.

“But at the same time the Ministry recognises that we are limited when it comes to the implementation because the regulator that is independent of the Ministry has been given the responsibility by law to implement such government policy.

“And it is within this spirit that we asked the regulator to set up an implementation committee that will have representation from all stakeholders… we believe that this forum where these implementation challenges can be addressed and so we have agreed – both government and our friends from the industry that these issues will be taken back to the implementation committee,” he added.

The implementation of the cylinder recirculation module was on the back of the Atomic Gas explosion which left many people injured, destroying properties running into millions of cedis.
