The country’s economy was in the worst state when John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government handed over power to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on December 7, 2017.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who made this known at the party’s extraordinary delegates conference held at the Heroes Park in Kumasi on Sunday, categorically stated that he inherited a bankrupt economy.
Though he promised to turn around things, he is appealing to the citizenry to bear with him a little longer as he is putting the necessary structures in place including the implementation of various policies and programmes to create jobs for the masses.
According to him, there is anxiety over joblessness especially members of vigilante groups of the party indicating that it will be a thing of the past considering the numerous programmes he is putting in place in that respect.
“We also had important challenges; Invincible and Delta forces and the tensions of the grassroots of our political party over jobs. I appreciate very much the anxiety about jobs. What I am saying is that the foundation has been laid for jobs. It has not been easy because we inherited a bankrupt economy but because of the ingenuity of the people I am working with, we have been able to lay a good foundation. I am asking you let us remain united and confident. We are on the right path and soon it will be all obvious to everybody,” he added.
