Former Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) President, Mr. Moses Foh Amoaning, has proposed the establishment of National Sports Associations’ league, as a measure of accessing the proposed sports fund.
The proposed sports fund would help private companies and investors to partner government on finding ways to develop and fund the many sporting disciplines in the country.
According to the astute lawyer and sports administrator, there should be measures and streamed lined policies as to who could access the fund, after it has been established.
“There should be provisions in the legislative instrument (LI) that will govern the sports fund as to how one qualifies to access the fund.
“I have suggested that we have a sports associations’ league, the national association’s league for football, so there would clear-cut viable key performance indicators for accessing it.
According to him sports funding and sponsorship are also about brand image and if you have a bad image, it doesn’t matter how good you could be, no one would like to sponsor your association, because a good sponsor or product manufacturer wants to associate with good attributes.
He noted that it is important for all associations to appoint brand or marketing managers, whose work would be to gather information and sell the sporting disciplines.
In his view “all the associations should run a league and at the end of the year the ministry should mark the associations and rate the performance before giving green light to who could access the fund.
“So if you’re into football or boxing and you don’t meet the criteria, you don’t get it until you streamline your activities and attract an image, because it would make the associations sit up and perform,” he stated.
