Prolific writer, Abyna-Ansaa Adjei, has launched her twelfth book titled ‘Grandma Goody’s Story: From Gold Coast to Ghana’ at the Flagstaff House Basic School in Accra, Thursday.

‘Grandma Goody’s Story: From Gold Coast to Ghana’ is a creative narration of the history of Ghana through the eyes of a grandmother known as Goody, thus the name ‘Grandma Goody’. Employing the use of simple diction, the book recounts to the reader the period before the coming of the Europeans, through the colonial periods to independence, and climaxes on the current administration.

The book gives the reader a picturesque account of Ghana’s history by detailing personal experiences of Grandma Goody such as her academic pursuits in Wesley Girls Senior High School, her evening Bible studies, her long trips to school on foot, as well as the rally held before the day of independence.

The author, Abyna-Ansaa Adjei, donated 700 copies of the book to pupils of the Flagstaff House Basic School, with the hope that corporate bodies would emulate the gesture.

“The last time I launched a book, on the day of the launch, I sold ten thousand. So many people gave books to public schools. I am hoping that people will come and buy these books and donate. It’s Christmas. That’s why I am giving 700 books away free today. Hopefully, some companies will pick the idea and give the books to some primary schools near them”, she stated.

She added that the remaining copies will not be auctioned, but rather donated to children in Kumasi as well.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion were Professor Angela Ofori-Atta, the wife of the Finance Minister, and Honourable Trevor Trefgarne, Group Chairman of Enterprise Group. The pupils and staff of the Flagstaff House Basic School were equally in attendance.

Other books written by the author include Otumfuo Osei Tutu II: King of Gold, Grandma’s story: Ghana is 50, Things every child of Ghana should know – J.B Danquah and Ghana: The story so far.
