November inflation increases marginally to 11.7%

Inflation has gone up marginally to 11.7 percent in November this year.

The figure went up by 0.1 percent from the 11.6 percent recorded in October.

Inflation measures the average change over time in the general prices of goods and services.

Acting Government Statistician, Mr. Baah Wadieh explained that the rise in prices of non-food items such as transport and clothing contributed to the increase.

“Inflation has gone up from 11.6 percent in October to 11.7 percent in November, by this it has gone up by 0.1 percent. The inflation can be attributed to the rise in non-food items such as transportation and clothing,” he said.

He stated that the main price drivers for the non-food inflation rate were Transport which was at 18.6%, Clothing and Footwear at 18.3%, Recreation and Culture at 17.1percent, Furnishing, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance at 15.2 % as well as Miscellaneous goods and services at 14. 0%.

The “price drivers” for the food inflation rate were Vegetables at 9.0% and Fish and seafood at 8.8%

Four regions; Greater Accra, Upper West, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti recorded inflation rates higher than the national average of 11.7 %.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Region recorded the lowest inflation of 10.0 percent while Greater Accra recorded the highest inflation of 12.7 percent.
