Revenue Protections Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured customers who are unable to upload credit to their prepaid metres that the situation will ease by next week.
David Asamoah said the engineering challenge has been brought under control, apologising for the inconvenience caused customers.
“The customers who left their cards here yesterday can go to their district offices for the cards because we have served them. We cannot distribute them here because of the crowd and chaos”, he told Joy News.
Earlier this week, a software problem with the ECG prepaid metres in some parts of Accra West, caused many customers inconvenience with those who use the service for their businesses to run at a loss.
Joy News’ Bernice Abu-Baidoo reported Thursday that, more than 1000 customers had besieged the project station for their cards and others to purchase credit.
Some of them who spoke told the reporter the ECG officials are being economical with the truth as those who had been given their cards back still cannot load the credits into the meters.
But Mr Asamoah explained that the situation is under control as the project station has been resourced with engineers that are serving customers.
“We hope to fix the challenge soon, I don’t believe it will continue to next week,” he assured.
“Those here to purchase credit today must leave their cards and come back at 2:00 pm for them,” he added.
According to him, there are two types of prepaid meters; the smart one, which is electronic and the ‘unsmart’ one, which uses a card to purchase and load the credit.
“It is only the ‘unsmart’ meters that are facing this challenge, the customers using smart meters are safe,” he said.
Meanwhile, the ECG authorities have called for security reinforcement to help them manage the crowd at the offices.
