A member of the Order of the British Empire, an International Non-Governmental Organisation, Nana Kofi Sarpong has alleged that some officials of the past National Democratic Congress (NDC) government used money intended for disabled persons for the construction of roads.

“A District Chief Executive (DCE) actually used money meant for disabled persons to construct roads”. Nana Sarpong alleged.

He made the allegation on Kumasi based, Otec FM on Monday in an interview granted him in commemoration of International Day for Persons with Disability; revealing that the information got to his notice when a disabled person approached him for assistance in order to reclaim their share of the Common Fund.

“A lady who is physically challenged approached me asking for help because according to her, I was the one who could lead her get back their money”. He narrated

“She said Nana, do you know the DCE and his Finance Officer have spent money allocated for us from the District Assembly’s Common Fund”. Nana quoted the lady as saying

In his quest for fairness for the disabled persons, he confronted the newly appointed DCE for clarification and was later on told by the past official that the said money was used for the construction of roads.

The member of the Order of the British Empire indicated that he had to send a strong warning to the said DCE that he was flouting the laws upon which he (DCE) apologized.

“The NDC DCE has finally paid the amount to the physically challenged in the District”.

“I would not like to mention the name of the DCE or his District for now”. He said

December 3rd of every year is an international day to celebrate the physically challenged in the society. Many communities have started making a change in the lives of the disabled.

At Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi, a football match was organized for the disabled.

However, Nana Sarpong in his interview urged all Ghanaians to come together and help fight for people with disability for a united society.
