Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has tipped reigning world champions Germany to retain their title in Russia next year.
Essien, who represented Ghana at the 2006 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments, believes the Germans’ knack for showing up in big tournaments tilts the scale in their favor.
“I think I’ll go for Germany. They are quite good when it comes to tournaments. They won the last one and they have the players to do it again,” Essien said.
The 4-time world champions are housed in Group F with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.
