Report by Herald newspaper reveals the embassy has been inviting regional reps of the gay community
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bia East, Richard Acheampong, has revealed that an embassy in Ghana, is busily lobbying for the legalization of homosexuality.
According to the MP, the said embassy on several occasions, held homosexual consultative meetings at it premises.
Although, the MP, refused to disclose the name of the embassy, The Herald’s findings from diplomatic circles, have revealed the Canadian Embassy in Ghana, as the mission secretly pushing the agenda to have homosexuality accepted and legalized in the country.
It has been revealed that, regular meetings are held in that embassy, with heavy attendance of homosexuals, to devise ways and means to safeguard their human rights with respect to anal sex.
This paper, is informed that two years ago, the same Canadian Embassy, held an end of year event on the matter in the embassy and invited some MPs, including the then Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West Constituency, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, and four others, names withheld, under the guise of discussing human rights issues.
The invited MPs, were said to be visibly angry at the embassy’s subtle attempts to lobby and use them as conduits to legalize homosexuality in Ghana; something Ghanaians, have overwhelmingly condemned.
The Herald sources at the Canadian Embassy, reveal that the five Ghanaian MPs, were specifically targeted because of their human rights credentials.
Meanwhile, speaking to Accra based Asempa FM, the Bia East MP, Acheampong, added that the embassy as part of its strategy, organises regular meetings for the homosexual community.
“This embassy has been inviting regional reps of the gay community in Ghana, to ask them about how they are being treated in the country… they have an aim of promoting the gay agenda in the country now…,” he alleged further.
The NDC MP, claimed that the embassy at one of the meetings with the gay and lesbian community, invited some MPs.
The embassy, he said, was, however, disappointed when none of the MPs invited to the event, spoke in favour of the agenda of legalizing gay marriage in the country.
Issues of homosexuality, have become topical after President Akufo-Addo’s interview with the international news network, Al Jazeera.
Answering questions on Al Jazeera, President Akufo- Addo, stated that homosexuality isn’t a big problem in Ghana yet, but when there is a strong demand for change, that might happen.
“This is the socio-cultural issue if you like…I don’t believe that in Ghana, so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say: ‘Change it [the law], let’s then have a new paradigm in Ghana.”
Juxtaposing Ghana’s situation to that of the England the president stated that “I grew up in England; I went to school as a young boy in England and I grew up at a time in England when homosexuality was banned there, it was illegal and I lived in the period when British politicians thought it was anathema to think about changing the law and suddenly the activities of individuals, of groups, a certain awareness, a certain development grew and grew and grew stronger and it forced a change in law. I believe those are the same processes that will bring about changes in our situation.” He stated
Many Ghanaians, including the Christian Council of Ghana, have tasked the president to declare Ghana’s position, as far as t homosexuality is concerned.
Meanwhile, the Bia East Legislator, has threatened to expose the said embassy, if they do not stop advocating for homosexuality.
