President Akufo-Addo says policies and programmes being pursued by government are intended to raise the standard of living of the ordinary Ghanaian.
He expressed hope that these policies will inure to the benefit of the people and as well, achieve government’s ultimate goal of cutting poverty.
President Akufo-Addo said the Free SHS policy for instance, has come to stay, adding that no criticism from detractors either on radio, television or on social media platform would derail the programme.
President Akufo-Addo was speaking at a durbar in Kumasi today (December 2), to climax the 60th Anniversary of Kumasi Academy, KUMACA.
The event was under the theme: “60 Years of Living the dreams of Holistic Education, Its Impact On Human Development.”
Kumasi Academy which was started in 1957, with four Ghanaians and four Nigerians, currently has a total students population of 2 810. In line with the Free SHS programme, 857 students enrolled in form in September.
Students’ performance in the WASSCE keeps improving each passing year. An awards scheme instituted by the Past Students Association for best performing students in the WASSCE has sparked a healthy competition among both staff and students.
These and other achievements of the school were brought to the notice of the President Akufo-Addo, who was the guest of honour at the function by the headmaster of the school Reverend Sylvester Osei-Wusu.
President Akufo-Addo who was elated by the achievements of the school over the past 60 years, emphasized the importance of education to the development of the country’s human capital.
He used the occasion to remind detractors of the Free SHS that, the policy has come to stay and would be sustained during and after his tenure as President.
President Akufo-Addo also, commented on the recent happenings in Libya.
The headmaster of the school, Reverend Sylvester Osei-Wusu outlined some challenges of the school. They include construction of block for flats in the school for teachers to enhance proper supervision of students, classrooms block to help reduce class sizes in the existing classrooms and vocational block.
