Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr. Osei Kofi Acquah has threatened to remove President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from office through a coup d’etat if he legalizes homosexuality in the country.

“I will stage coup d’etat against this government should they initiate any move to legalize homosexuality in Ghana”, he revealed.

” It is barbaric and horrible to legalize homosexuality. I will use all forms of moves to remove President Akufo-Addo if he dares make homosexuality legal”, he spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM’s morning show.

“I will storm the Presidency with sticks and stones to attack the President if he dares”, the outspoken Communication Director told host Kofi Asante Ennin, host on Nhyira FM.

Pressure is mounting on President Akufo-Addo following an indication given the country’s position on homosexuality act could change if there is strong advocacy.

General Secretary of Christian Council, Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni Frimpong fears that if pressure is piled on government by advocates of homosexuality, it may cause a change in the law and the legalisation of homosexuality.

Speaking to Aljazeera’s Jane Dutton the President Akufo-Addo said the country’s culture and tradition for now does not allow the legalisation of homosexuality but was quick to add that if public opinion changes, the law may just be amended.

“This is a social, cultural issue, I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say ‘change it, let’s now have a new paradigm in Ghana.’
