After making a return to Miss Universe for the first time in 13 years, Ghana made it to the Top 16 but missed out on the ultimate.

Miss Universe Ghana 2017 Ruth Quashie was among the 92 finalists at this year’s global pageant held at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The 23-year-old University of Ghana graduate was one of the two African representatives to make the Top 16.

The other, South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, emerged the eventual winner.

South Africa wins the crown for the first time in almost 40 years She replaced France’s Iris Mittenaere, who won the crown last year – though final event was held in January, 2017.

The crown is South Africa’s second after Margaret Gardiner won it in 1978.

Colombia’s Laura Gonzalez and Jamaica’s Davina Bennet came second and third respectively.
