A top member of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yamoah Afrifra Ponkoh has cautioned the former Chief Executive of NHIA, Sylvester Mensah to stop comparing himself to former President Mahama.

According to Yamoah Ponkoh, under no circumstances can Sylvester Mensah be a better candidate to lead the NDC. Speaking on Accra-based Okay FM, the NDC man insisted that he simply could not fathom why a man who worked under the former president could parade himself a better candidate than Mahama.

“In fact, you are not better than Mahama. How can you compare yourself to a man who appointed you as a CEO and worked under him? It’s impossible,” he said.

Mr. Mensah’s decision to contest the NDC’s flagbearership race, Mr Ponkoh said it’s not a crime but he should learn to maintain his standard and not attack John Mahama’s personality.

“I so much respect him (Sylvester), he has been my former boss before but he should maintain his standard and stop attacking Mahama since he is free to contest,” he said.

Yamoah Ponkoh in his conversation maintained that former President Mahama is the only candidate capable of leading the NDC into the 2020 elections. Mr. Sylvester Mensah is on record to have said that he will be a better NDC flagbearer than John Mahama if given the chance to lead the party.

A number of persons, including the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin, Ekow Spio Garbrah, and former Rector of the University of Professional Studies Prof Joshua Alabi have hinted of their desire to lead the NDC into the 2020 elections
