Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has challenged his predecessor, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to produce a single document covering the erstwhile John Mahama administration’s policy to construct 200 community senior high schools of which even 25% was not completed.

According to him, his checks reveal that there’s no such document, adding that the former Minister was at her hypocritical best when she demanded to see a document covering the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy rolled out by the Akufo Addo government.

Hon. Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has over the past week come under heavy flak by a section of the public especially members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) after he described his predecessor and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as a “disgrace” and “ignorant” on radio.

Persons including former Education Minister, Betty Mould Iddrisu and Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Special Aide to ex President John Mahama have slammed Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his disgraceful comments describing the attack as unfortunate.

But in an interview with Ghana News Day, Dr Opoku Prempeh said he stands by his comments saying his description of the former Minister is apt.

“I’ve heard the former Minister of Education say on some networks about two months ago that she hasn’t seen any document covering the Free SHS policy and that we’re are lying and deceiving Ghanaians. When I answer back and say she’s an embarrassment to Education, people say I’m attacking her, but I’m not. She should produce one document that outlines the 200 secondary schools. She should go to the budget document and tell me in those four years where the line items is that we’ve provided this money for the 200 secondary schools. People forget that they’ve been here, but they started building the schools because that gaeneral government revenue is used for government activities. So the World Bank even providing $156million some goes into 23 Secondary schools, they couldn’t even finish it in their term.

“If they can show the policy document that said the schools are going to be built in four years, this is how much it’s going to cost government and they actually did it, they should provide the document. So you don’t turn round and say you haven’t seen documents so it’s a deception. When she was here and was prosecuting the agenda of 200 senior high schools that she couldn’t even build 25% before she left, where was  the policy document that she brought to Ghanaians before she started that.”
