Ghana Ethiopia 1Black Stars placed third in Group E of the World Cup qualifiers

Black Stars Management Committee Vice Chairman, Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer, says they underestimated their group opponent in the just-ended 2018 World Cup qualification after Ghana failed to make their fourth successive World Cup.

The Black Stars were toppled by the Pharaohs of Egypt in Group E of the qualifiers and placed third with seven points from six games which compounded their woes of not making it to next year’s world football showpiece in Russia.

Speaking on the Football Legends Night Show on GH ONE TV last week Friday, Palmer categorically underlined their lack of respect for the group opponents despite their improved FIFA ranking.

“If you take Egypt, for instance, they are the highly ranked African team on FIFA’s ranking. Uganda, on the other hand, is the most improved team in the whole world because they were able to move from a certain position to their current position.

“So statistically speaking, this were teams that would offer us a very stiff competition, so right from the onset we should have accepted technically that we were third fiddle to these teams, but we failed to position ourselves in that manner, but rather felt that it was our birthright to be at the World Cup,” Palmer said on the Football Legends Night Show on GH ONE TV.
