Suhum killer driver jailed 4 years

The Driver who crashed to death two persons and injured one other at Addo-Nkwanta near Suhum in the Eastern Region, has been jailed four (4) years by a Koforidua Circuit Court.

The Court also entered other consequential orders including payment of a total of GHC18,000 to the bereaved families and injured person which in default will attract additional imprisonment sentences.

The convict pleaded guilty to 10 charges pressed against him by the Prosecutor, Assistant State Attorney, Dickson Donkor and was convicted on his own plea.

 

Background

Two persons were in October crashed to death at Suhum-Addo Nkwanta, a community along the Suhum to Koforidua road.

The deceased persons were, Michael Ohene Asare, 9, and Emmanuel Kankam Manteyaw, a 27 year old level 200 distance Education student of University of Education,Winneba.

One other person identified as Giovanni also suffered life threatening injuries.

The deceased persons and the victim were sitting behind an Indomie fast food vendor at the roadside when the unregistered Toyota Camry heading towards Suhum veered off its lane and ran into them killing two persons on the spot, injuring one person while three others escaped death.

Esther Larbi, the Ndomie seller told Kasapa News, the incident occurred around 9:30 to 10pm, adding that the driver, a rastaman, fled into the bush after the accident.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Suhum Morgue.
