The Female Football Team of the Ghana Prisons Service has presented the Sanford Women’s FA Cup they won during 2016/2017 Women’s Football League to the acting Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Darko Missah, at the Prisons Headquarters.

Presenting the trophy at Cantonments in Accra, the Captain of the team, Corporal Rita Dwamena, said she was very delighted to have beaten the defending champions (Police) in the finals to pick the trophy. She assured that the team will double its training efforts to defend the title come the next sporting season.

Appeal

The Captain, however, noted that, ‘despite the success, we are facing challenges such as low motivation, poor quality training pitch, and inadequate training kits’, and appealed to the Prisons Administration to come to their aid so they can better prepare for tournaments.

Congratulations

The acting Director-General of Prisons receiving the trophy congratulated the team for emerging as champions, and said, ‘just like the Prisons Female Handball team who won the Greater Accra Handball Knockout Competition this year, you have also made the Service proud’. He commended the efforts of the Prisons Sports Unit led by Superintendent Evelyn Ghartey at winning trophies for the Service to enhance its image.

Mr. Patrick Darko Missah pledged to support the football team and all other sporting disciplines in the Service with the establishment of a Sports Development Fund. The Fund according to him will take care of tournament participation fees, both local and international sports trips, and modern sporting equipment to facilitate training.

Best player

The Best Player of the tournament went to a player of the team, Sylvia Amankwah, who in an interview thanked her coach, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Imoro Amadu, for giving her the requisite training to make her come up tops in the championship.

Activities

After presenting the Trophy to the acting Director-General, the team went on a float on some principal streets of Accra, and a thanksgiving service was also organized in their favour.

Background
