MTN Ghana Foundation has invested over $13million in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the last 10 years in Ghana.

This was revealed by the Board Chairman of the Foundation, Prof. Franklyn Manu at a media launch of the Foundation’s 10th-year-anniversary celebration in Accra.
“ In the space of 10 years, the Foundation has invested over $13million in building school blocks, libraries, and ICT centers, enhancing teaching capabilities, constructing and equipping hospital wards, paying tuition and supporting entrepreneurship”, he added.

Prof. Manu said, “The MTN Group mandated the contribution of 1% of their profit tax to social responsibility initiatives, and in Ghana, these funds are managed by the MTN foundation which has its own independent boards of directors and secretariat.”

The Foundation, Prof. Manu said, has not just invested financial resources, but has also invested quality time and made a lot of sacrifices to make lives better.

“Our Save a life Campaign which organizes the annual blood donation exercise was introduced to help address the perennial blood shortage at the National Blood Bank and other regional hospitals. The campaign has since then, collected over 6,000 pints of blood,” he said.

On her part, the Senior Manager for Sustainability and Social Impact, Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu outlined series of activities lined up for the celebration including the commissioning of the Tema General hospital maternity ward among others.

The event under the theme: “Celebrating 10 years of brightening lives, inspiring a brighter future,” is expected to run through October 2017 to March 2018.

The MTN Foundation is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management structure for the MTN Group’s related initiatives across its 22 operations.

It was established in 2007 as a single purpose vehicle to drive all MTN’s CSR initiatives in the country. The Foundation currently has three focus areas – Health, Education and Economic Empowerment.

Its commitment is centered around the socio-economic development of the country through the roll-out of appropriate and sustainable social interventions in communities all over the country.

The main aim of the Foundation is to have a broad community impacting and supporting national and international development priorities. It facilitates partnership and sharing of resources to achieve mutual objectives.
