Accra Hearts of Oak influential skipper, Thomas Anold Abbey says he is aware that some local players consult oracles and spiritualists to help improve their performances but he has chosen to stay away from such practice.

The 23-year-old Accra has been in the form of his life this season scoring 12 goals already, with four assists and a couple of man of the match performances.

In an interview with Atinka TV’s Sports Court show, Abbey attributed his excellent form to a rigourous preseason workout and hardwork, insisting he does not believe in spiritualists and witchcraft

“Even though I know and have heard some players do consult oracles and occult homes to improve their performances, I have never done such thing before”, He said.

“I cannot go to a spiritualist to help me have a one season hit and that is all. I only did a great preseason training and keep working hard”

“As for prayer, I do and I pray to only one God but to visit a juju man, no, I haven’t done such practice before”, he added.

It is widely believed that some football clubs and players consult oracles before games or seasons starts to ask for spiritual support.

The powers of such oracles range from washing the football Jerseys in spiritual waters and offering prayers to the gods. They produce special concoctions for the players to sprinkle on themselves and to be used on the field of play.

Some ex-footballers have confirmed ever using such tricks which have helped them achieve great successes in some matches or through entire seasons.
