The much anticipated Special Prosecutor is expected to investigate alleged fraudulent activities by public officials carried by Newspapers, radio and television stations.

The bill which has gone through first reading on the floor of Parliament has been referred to the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs for consideration and report by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye.

Ahead of the committee’s consideration and report, a deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka told Adom News that the Special Prosecutor will not only act on complains from the public but will also pursue stories published by the media.

He added that the office of the special prosecutor will also receive their annually budget allocation from the Consolidated Account to avoid delays of releasing of funds and political manipulations.

“The special prosecutor has a role to play but since we are all fighting corruption in this country, the special prosecutor will investigate and pursue stories published by the media in order to alert the media on what to publish or what not to publish” he said.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Manso Adubia, Yaw Frimpong Addo says the office of the special prosecutor will help to plunge loopholes in the country’s economy.
