KOBEN221The school since its establishment in 1987 has seen no rehabilitation

The lives of students and teachers of Koben Presbyterian D/A Primary School a farming community in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region, are under serious threat as the old school building is near collapse.

The Koben Primary School building with a population of about 500 pupils has become a death trap.

Parts of the roof have been ripped off with some of the roof hanging. Also, cracks that have developed in the building have deepened while wooden pillars supporting the building have become weak.

The school since its establishment in 1987 has seen no rehabilitation.

As a result of the current situation, the school’s authorities have merged some of the classes such as the class one and two into one class.

The students of the school speaking to Abusua Dawuro’s Osei Kwadwo said the condition of the school is affecting their academic performance adding that their lives are being threatened.

The students also complained about lack of computers in the school which is affecting Information Communication Technology (ICT) subject.

“We are appealing to authorities, government and stakeholders to come to our aid because the situation is affecting teaching and learning in this school,” they said.

The Assistant Headmaster of the school Mr. Williams Teboa Acheampong said that for more than eight (8) years, the students have been studying in the dilapidated structure, but the situation had worsened as a result of rainstorm that hit the area recently.

He explained that he had made several appeals to the district assembly for renovation of the structure but that had not yielded any positive result.
