George Afriyie NewnewGeorge Afriyie wants to quit his post

There is tension at the corridors of the Ghana football Association (GFA) following a reported clash on Tuesday between president Kwesi Nyantakyi and his vice, George Afriyie during a meeting to sack the latter from his position, SportsObama.com has gathered.

The Ghana FA boss is reported to have summoned an emergency meeting on Tuesday announcing his decision to sack Afriyie from his position as vice president, insisting he cannot work with the Okyeman Planners president again.

Mr Nyantakyi, a FIFA executive council member is alleged to have questioned the loyalty of Afriyie on several counts, resulting in the former firing a damaging remark in response, impugning among others, that he Nyantakyi is a ‘greedy man.’

Afriyie, who doubles as the chairman of Black Stars Management Committee, is alleged to have gone berserk following Nyantakyi’s decision and told the CAF vice president to ‘take his FA’ as he [Afriyie] is not interested again.

According to SportsObama.com sources, the Ghana FA boss, who is serving a third successive term in office has informed the other FA bigwigs present to arrange an Executive Committee meeting next week where he will appoint a new vice president of the Federation.

This confirms reports of a long-standing feud between Nyantakyi and Afriyie in recent months.

The two topmost officials of the GFA are reportedly not in good relation as far as work is concerned on issues of trust.

In January this year, there were reports that the GFA president had accused his lieutenant of aligning himself with the then Minister for Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye who had been at loggerheads with the GFA boss.

George Afriyie, who was not happy with the issues, gave a hint of his intention to quit from his position at the Ghana FA.

However, some senior football administrators arranged a meeting at the Alisa Hotel and acted as arbitrators on the matter and settled it amicably.

George Afriyie after the meeting told Kumasi-based Kessben FM that “Everything has been resolved. Even If there were any misunderstanding they have been resolved,” he added.
