Chelsea legend, Geremi Njitap, says Ghanaian international, Baba Rahman, must prove his worth to break into Antonio Conte’s set-up in the upcoming Premier League season.

Njitap, who played for Cameroun and Chelsea from 2003 to 2007, urged Rahman to work harder to break into the strong Chelsea team since that is the responsibility of every player.

Rahman joined Chelsea from German side, Augsburg, for £14 million in 2015 but failed to break into the first team after making just 15 appearances for the club.

The 22-year-old was loaned out to Schalke 04 ahead of the commencement of last season but had his stint cut short after sustaining an injury while on international duty with the Black Stars in last January’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, at a FIFPro Africa Divisions Congress in Accra, Njitap said: “I think Baba Rahman has the responsibility to prove his worth in order to break into the Chelsea squad”.

“Every player in the Chelsea squad must prove himself before getting the nod to play for the team, which I believe, is the order of the day in every team,” Njitap added.

When asked about some of the difficulties African players faced in Europe, the former Real Madrid UEFA Champions League winner noted that it was always difficult playing in the top leagues in the world.

He, however, advised African players to remain focused on their careers by surrounding themselves with people who could be of help in enhancing themselves as professionals.
