Golfers of the Royal Golf Club gave the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,  a befitting 60th birthday present with unblemished display to win all the topmost prizes at this year’s Vodafone Asantehene Gold Cup competition in Kumasi yesterday.

Apart from the professional event which was won by Tema-based Vincent Torgah, the host club literally blew away their competitors, including those from the neighbouring countries.

Kwabena Poku and Maxwell Owusu Bonsu picked the first and second positions  in the men’s 72 hole scratch event with gross scores of 297 and 299, respectively, to relegate Alfred Kwabena of the Tafo Club to third on 307 score.

The story was no different in the Ladies Scratch event where Constance Awoni and Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour stole the show by grabbing the first and try second positions, respectively.

Constance grossed 156 while Felicity had 163 to pick the first and second prizes respectively, while budding talent, Jessica Tei of Achimota Golf Club, was third with 170 gross score.

Even at the handicap level, where the competition is less attractive,  the Kumasi club still dominated.  Juddy Gyimah-Bota and Mercy Ampofo won in the two horse race.

Juddy clocked 78 score to pick the first prize while Mercy was second with 80 score.

Torgah won with 279 gross score against Korblah who recovered late after fumbling at hole four to score 283 while Kojo Barnni was third with 290.
